Epic blog post - The Write Idea

Epic blog post

Establish authority and drive organic traffic with an epic, or foundational, blog post

When you do it right, an epic blog post or foundational blog post will accomplish several things for your business. It will:

  1. Bring you a steady stream of organic traffic.
  2. Establish your expertise and authority.
  3. Help people get to know, like, and trust you.

An epic or foundational blog post isn’t like an ordinary blog post though, which tends to run 300 to 500 words. Instead, an epic or foundational blog post runs from 1,500 to 2,500 to even more words.

The "epic blog post" is typically a deep dive on a single topic, providing more information, guidance, and how-to in one place than people can get anywhere else. The "foundational" blog post is also epic; but it conveys basic or starter information, perhaps for someone new to your industry.

Here are the titles of a few epic blog posts I’ve written for clients:

  • How to build a case for X (3,250 words)
  • How to run your first X campaign (2,500 words)
  • Knowing your WHY: How to close more sales by tapping psychology and physiology (2,100 words)

If you’d like an epic blog post on a topic your prospects and customers care about, then that’s where my Epic Blog Post Writing package comes in.

The “Epic Blog Post” package: How it works

When you purchase this package, I’ll create an epic blog post that will draw traffic and attention for you for years to come. You choose the topic, and I’ll provide guidance along the way.

Epic Blog Post: What’s included

What you get

The specifics

  • 30-minute kickoff call

Before I begin, I need to understand your company, your audience and their journey, and your goals. In this 30-minute call, either over the phone, by Skype, or through Hangouts, I’ll pick your brain in preparation for project.

  • Preparation / outline

After we speak, I’ll do a quick-dive on the web to learn about your company, offerings, customers, and market. From there, and with guidance you provided to me during our call, I’ll develop an outline of the post, including proposed titles, and a list of questions I’ll need you to answer. If others within your company are keepers of the knowledge or holders of the stories, I’ll interview them through email to get at the information I need.

  • Writing

After you approve the outline and answer my questions, I’ll write the post, I’ll also include or recommend images, from my sources or yours. If I think your post might be a spot for a lead magnet, I’ll let you know.

  • Editing

When I send the post to you — via Word or Google Docs, your choice — you read it, mark it up, ask questions, ask me to add or remove content … whatever it takes to get it ready to post. I’ll work up version 2.0, and send it to you so you can post when needed.

  • Optional: CMS posting

Although not part of this package, you may also want me to add the post directly to your CMS so that it’s formatted and ready for you to hit PUBLISH. For the epic blog post, this service costs an additional $149; I’ll bill you separately for it once I’m through.

Have questions? Maybe I’ve already answered them in my blog post writing Q&A.

No questions? Let’s get started!

Get a quote for a YES-driving epic blog post.

The price of this package varies depending on how much research and how many interviews will be required, as well as the estimated length of the epic post. I also need to find out whether you'd like me to provide any "extras," such as messaging guidance or a website review.

To help me prepare a quote, the next step is to schedule a 30-minute Get Acquainted call. There's no obligation; the call is just so that we can discuss what you have in mind. Please choose a time that works for you on the calendar that follows.

P.S. If you run into problems with the calendar (technology, you know!), please email me so I can get it fixed--and you scheduled.
