I'm not talking about "Dear Diary" type blogging. Or blogging about that awesome tuna sandwich you ate.

My journey from accountant, to mom, to mompreneur
I've been working from home as a mompreneur marketing writer since 2002.
At that point, I had three children, ages 3.5 years, 26 months, and 12 months old.
Aren't they adorable?!? No wonder I wanted to stay home with them :)
Today, those babies are all off at different colleges, and I'm an empty nester with a thriving business as a marketing writer, editor, and writing coach.
(Mama and papa, it really does go by so quickly ... so, so quickly. Treasure them!)
Here's a little timeline to show you how I got from mom to where I am today.
My Journey from Mom to Mompreneur and Beyond
Funny thing is ... when I started my business, I didn't have a "blog." Instead, I created an online newsletter: The Tampa Bay Marketers Report. I also landed a marketing column in an online Tampa-area magazine.
Between Elance and those two marketing channels, I earned enough to stay home with my babies, maintain the lifestyle I was used to, and grow my writing business.
Little by little, I stopped writing for my newsletter and eventually ended my column. I had more business than I could handle, and I loved it!
I quickly got to the point where I was earning enough to hire a woman to come to my home five days a week for half a day at a time.
What an amazing life!
I woke up, got dressed, and kissed, fed, and played with my babies until the sitter arrived. Then, I headed back to my office while she made them lunch, did a few chores, like dishes, vacuuming, and laundry, and otherwise kept the kids happy.
I felt so blessed back then, and I feel even MORE blessed now!
It's been almost 20 years since I've commuted to work.
Almost 20 years since I've wore a business suit.
Almost 20 years since I've worn high heels. (!!!)
Almost 20 years since I had to make the dreaded call to work: "Sorry, I won't be in ... my kid is sick."
So, my friend, I want to tell you -- it's possible.
In fact, if you follow the strategies I provide to build your blog and your brand, it's not just possible. It's highly probable!
But wait ... what about blogging?
Yes. I told you that I didn't have a blog back then.
And, truth be told, I've only starting blogging for myself again over the last three or four years. I was so slammed with business for so many years that I had no time to market and blog for my OWN business.
That said, I have been blogging for clients on and off, all along.
On their corporate dimes, I learned a whole lot of blogging tricks, techniques, and secrets. I also developed several blogging methods and shortcuts of my own.

Blog Your Brilliance is about MORE than the mechanics. It's about YOU.
A lot of blogging programs out there ... MOST programs, for that matter ... focus solely on the mechanics of blogging.
- How to set up a blog
- How to design your blog
- How to create an editorial calendar
- How to choose keywords
- How to write great blog titles
- How to choose images
- How to handle the whole SEO thing
- And on, and on, and on
There are 1,000,001 blog-related topics out there to learn. (I've been blogging since the early 2000s and still don't know it all!)
Honestly, you CAN learn those how-tos and mechanics anywhere. You don't need Blog Your Brilliance for that. (Although I do think I make learning that content fun in my own unique, crazy way!)
What I think you DO need Blog Your Brilliance for is for the focus on YOU.
It's about you blogging strategically.

Blog Your Brilliance: What's Inside
Module 1
In Module 1, get the blogging basics down pat: what makes a blog a blog, types of blogs, and bloggy lingo. Understand how your blog will help your business, and choose what benefits you'd like to get from your blog. Outline the purpose of your blog, and choose a blogging frequency. Also decide who much time you'll spend on blogging and where your blog will live. The module wraps with an introduction to my inCREDIBLE Blog Post Writing Formula. And, as a bonus, get vetted resources that will help you start a Wordpress blog from scratch.
Module 2
In Module 2, get clear on the Five Ws as they apply to blogging: WHO your audience is, WHAT content you'll create, WHERE you'll promote your blog posts, WHEN to post your content, and WHY you're blogging in the first place. A key feature of this Module is the editorial calendar. I'll share examples and walk you through creating your own. There's also a bonus walkthrough of Trello, a free online project management tool that's perfect for bloggers.
Module 3
Module 3 is meaty! In it, you'll discover three types of must-have blog posts, plus a few other optional types. Then you'll move on to tricks of the trade for helping readers (and Google) discover your blog posts, including blog post titles, headlines, images, metadata, and more. Finally, close out the Module by learning a series of writerly tricks, and by downloading "Renae's Rules of Blogging," some overarching guidance to take with you as you take the training wheels off and start your blogging journey.
Module 4
Module 4 is my favorite; it's all about ideas--where to get them and what to do with them. Explore a detailed example of how to create blog posts that give readers MORE than what's out there already. Discover the free tool I use to find ideas galore. See how I track my blog posts, and get ideas for how to track yours. Wrap up the Module by learning about several creativity kickstarters you can use should you need a fresh perspective. Plus, have fun with an assignment that'll help you come up with 75 blog post ideas in 20-30 minutes!
Module 5
In Module 5, get prepared with a discussion of the mindset crap you'll inevitably encounter as you begin to blog your brilliance. Believe me, your mind will throw all sorts of excuses at you for why you can't blog. In this Module, I'll equip you to tackle those excuses, whether they're valid or not. After Module 5, you'll be ready to take off the training wheels and start motoring along on your own. And I, as your proud blog mom, will be right behind you, cheering you on!
