Luminous writing: Holy crap, that’s scary!

Let me be luuuuuuminous

Every day during the 30 Day Blogging Challenge, I'm drawing a set of cards from my soon-to-be-available Blog Post Inspiration Deck. One of the cards today is luminosity.

Luminosity. Luminous.

I love that word, both the sound of it ... luuuminous ... and the diverse images it brings to my mind.

Like ... a sunbeam, shining down to light up a dark road.

And I especially love the luminous, bright smile on the face of a happy human.

When I first saw the word luminosity today, and as I sat with it, I suddenly, and quite naturally, thought of luminous writing. 

After all, I am a writer. And I want my words to be luminous!

Luminous Writing. 

What a lovely ring to it! 

I decided to head over to domains.google.com to see if it might be available for sale. 

IT WAS!

For just $12, I could own LuminousWriting.com.

LumiousWriting could be mine!

Now you should probably know that I own at least 35 domains because when I'm inspired or lit up by an idea, I figure I "might as well" buy it, just in case, because THAT idea could be the BIG ONE. The one that lets me book a 100+ day, round-the-world cruise on a luxury liner. (The last time I looked, the price of such a fantasy runs about $60,000 per person.) 

But I am realistic. I do dump unused domains after a year. Some take me a few years; some I grieve when I let go. 

Just recently, I let seven domains expire. And another three will expire at the end of this month. (Late April must be a time of inspiration for me!)

But as I looked at the domain, shining there on the screen, beckoning me with thoughts of grandeur and beautiful, sonorous writing -- LuminousWriting.com, LuminousWriting.com -- my inner critic woke up.

"Do you actually have the nerve to call your writing 'luminous'?" came the sneer.

"Look at F. Scott Fitzgerald. And James Joyce. And don't forget Carl Sandburg, whose nearby frozen-in-time home you love to tour. Now THOSE GUYS were luminous writers."

Yes, I had to admit, those guys WERE luminous writers.

And I am nowhere near their calibre.

Just listen to this:

Yep. 

I can't compare.

No LuminousWriting for me.

So I left the Google Domains page, and got busy doing other things. 

But I didn't close the tab on my browser.

Just in case.

Fast forward five or six hours. I'm winding down at the end of the day, having spent much time pining about this blog post but no time writing it.

I've committed to write a post a day though, so I set down to the task after my shower.

When I return, the browser tab is still open.

There it is.

LuminousWriting.com.

I don't know WHY I want it. I definitely want it!

But I'm afraid to buy it. 

I'm not luminous, after all. Not when my light is compared to the lights of giants.

I'm maybe one of those pen lights that used to be a "thing" when I was in middle school. Everyone had one. I had at least five of them because my dad owned a hardware store, and gadgets and gizmos like that were always readily available.

Buy it.

IT'S FREAKING SCARY! Who am I to say I'm a LuminousWriter, doing LuminousWriting?

Buy it. You can always let it sit there and expire next year. It's just 12 bucks! What have you got to lose?!?

Well, if I buy it, I'll have something to write about on this blog post.

And that, dear reader, sealed the deal.

I am now the proud owner of LuminousWriting.com.

I hope to grow into it some day.

And ... maybe, just maybe, I will.
