Testing a non-traditional success story format for a SaaS company
Of all the success stories I've written, I'm most proud of this one, a SaaS success story, because it breaks the traditional success story format.
I'm all about finding ways to stand out from the pack--and that includes in the packaging of typical marketing content. My client agreed to try the new approach, so off I went!
How to write a great SaaS success story: My process
To write the SaaS success story, I:
- Conducted interviews and had them transcribed
- Developed a model for presenting the information both my client and their customer wanted to convey
- Wrote the initial draft and instruction set for the designer
- Edited subsequent drafts and iterated with the designer
- Gained approvals from both my client and their customer
- Provided a final quality assurance review post-design
See the result yourself: A non-traditional success story
As a treat, I'm providing you with a QA'ed version of the success story below; just click the image to view it. Note that the yellow bubbles you'll see inside the pdf contain my final set of instructions to the designer. If you scroll over the bubbles you should be able to read my comments.
Afterthought: What I'd have done differently if I had the chance...
If I could have had my way, I'd have tweaked the story even further, shortening and spreading out the content over additional pages, which would improve the story's "perceived" readability.
But, as Twain (or someone) said, "I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead."
